The gas distribution company SGN is about to get the delivery of 189 new Transit Custom vans as emergency response vehicles for the engineers
SGN is presently operating 400 vans to manage supplies to 5.8 million homes and businesses across Scotland and Southern England where it runs a gas distribution network. The company decided to use Ford Transit Custom so that carrying long gas pipes has been made easy, thanks to its load-through bulkhead.
SGN fleet manager, Paul Davies said that by using these vehicles, they have now got the ability to work safely and eliminated the need of loading heavy copper piping above head height. This has reduced the probability of any potential accident that may occur during work hours.
He further added that as their vans are on the go 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they need them to be economical as well as reliable. Ford Transit Custom is just the right kind of vehicle for the job; it is spacious, economical and provides a pleasant work environment where operators enjoy working.
The Transits for SGN are high roofed and short wheelbase models, featuring stainless steel racking system especially designed by Tevo, a conversion firm. A 2.2-litre Ford diesel engine powers these vehicles and produces 100 bhp. For SNG needs these Transits have added safety steps, load area heating, additional lighting and safe storage areas.
