Some people learn it the hard way why both of these don’t mix very well
If you have accidentally dropped your phone on the floor, you would be lucky if you haven’t smashed the screen. And if you have, it’s a real pity, isn’t it? But what about your Ford Transit’s compartment? Isn’t it safe? Well, think again.
The Transit may be the king of the commercial van, it may have the best Ford EcoBoost engine in the segment, but it did pose the danger to your cell phone.
Why is it bad for phones?
There was a man in a video stating that he was driving a Ford Transit van and noticed conveniently placed and sized door compartment that could hold his iPhone 6 pretty well.
He couldn’t find any intuitive that suggests placing an extended item may result in destruction when the door is closed. So him, not knowing that the top of the compartment will be covered and recessed into part of the dashboard. As soon as he had shut the door, his worst nightmare became a reality. His iPhone 6 got completely destroyed and became the victim of bad design.
Who was that poor soul?
Though it has not been confirmed but it is believed that his name was Mar Rozzano and he was from San Francisco, Florida. His iPhone was totally wedged underneath the dashboard of the van.
What Ford has to say about it?
“Ford recommends that mobile phones are stowed in the compartment on the top of the instrument cluster as per the images below from the Transit brochure.” Said a spokeswoman for Ford, she further added that it is located adjacent to the 12v charge point for the convenience, and designed in such a way to keep them out of sight for additional security. But they are in easy access from inside the cabin, without the need for door to be opened.
The pocket in the top of the door moulding shown in that video was designed to hold smaller items like the car park tickets or other items of that size.
As they say, you got to learn it by others mistakes or learn it the hard way. The choice is yours.
