Ford has evolved its light commercial van, Transit Connect into a proper passenger carrier
Ford Transit van is widely available and loved in the UK and Ford has continuously worked to improve it with the passage of time since its launch about 50 years ago. Now in 2015, Ford celebrates the 50th birthday of Transit with the golden version. Transit is now available in several trims and engine options as the new technology has been transforming the model.
Ford Transit is offered in UK in different shapes and wheel bases. It is widely used as an ultimate cargo van, a mobile workshop, an ambulance, a police car, a jailer detention van, a school van, and now the mini passenger carrier. The Transit Connect has now been changed into a proper people carrier.
What Power Options Ford Transit offer?
The Connect is a short wheel based model and available in only 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It is an EcoBoost engine and has a power output which is almost equal to the 2.5-litre engine offered in the long wheelbase models of Ford Transit. It only lacks 9hp and 13 lb-ft from the 2.5-litre engine.
Duratec engines have been on sale for some time and are widely used throughout the Ford vehicles. It is a pleasant companion that sounds very smooth, but the performance lacks by 4,000-pound LWB Wagon. The throttle is smooth, linear and easy to modulate.
How Economical is Connect Wagon?
2.5-litre four-cylinder engine is not hugely efficient and returns 20 miles per gallon in city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway, combined fuel economy is stated at 23 miles per gallon.
Four-speed automatic transmission in the Transit Connect makes it unbearable on the motorway. But it is far better than the old four-speed transmission but very bland on the motorway speed.
Ford Transit Connect minivan is not as comfortable as genuine passenger haulers, but it is still agile, entertaining and affordable for utility minded shoppers.
