In August this year Ford will celebrate Transit’s 50th anniversary. Ever since its first model built in 1965, 8 million units have rolled out
August 9, 1965 was the day when the very first Ford Transit rolled out from the production line and since then, it has never looked back. In August this year Ford Transit will celebrate its 50th anniversary. To honour five decades of loyal service to the businesses around the world, Ford has designed a Gold All-New Transit.
These eight million models represent fifty glorious years of Ford Transit production and if these units are lined up end-to-end, they will circle the world. Transit has been truly amazing sales figure as on average, a new Transit van is bought every 180 seconds.
Mark Ovenden the chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain said that there is not a single aspect of our life that has not been touched by Ford Transit.
It doesn’t matter what kind of job you have at hand, whether it’s moving houses or commuting people, Transit is the best option. Even for some of us, it has become our mobile home or office, but one thing is absolutely clear, we all love it.
Many of us probably don’t know that Transit was launched the same year mankind set foot on the moon. The economy was booming so with all its glory, Transit van made a big impact. Over the years, Ford Transit has evolved into a great range of variants and body styles, covering almost all walks of life. Look around and you’ll find it as a parcel van, campers and tipper trucks and even Supervans Cosworth powered by V8 engines.
Getting to 1 million sales was time consuming as it was accomplished in 1976, 9 years after its launch. The next million was achieved in 1985, then 1994, 2000, 2005, 2010 and ultimately 2013. As the demand for new Transit vans is on the rise, Ford is looking to produce 9 million Transits in 2015 with the help of Transit Connect and Courier.
Transit is a global van as it is sold in 118 markets around the world.
