The all new Ford Transit 2014 gets the monstrous 3.2 Litre five-pot Duratorq engine
This Ford engine was announced to be the part of Transit powertrains for 2014 model, this engine is specifically marked as an option for full sized Transit van. This is not a new engine though, but a powerful one which is already serving the Ranger and some of old Transits in overseas markets.
The full size Transit must not be confused with the Transit Connect because the Connect is the smaller version that will be offered with the turbo diesel engine and turbo petrol engine options. All Transits will be mated with the six speed gearbox and same ratio automatic transmission.
In the case of US markets, Ford has dropped the Duratorq in favour of their power stroke Moniker to align the five cylinder engine along with V8 diesel engines. Moniker is currently serving the full sized pick-ups.
The refined version of Ford Duratorq engine is assembled by the Struandale engine production facility in Elizabeth South Africa. This 3.2 Litre engine offers 197 bhp and 347 Lb-Ft of torque in the European specifications. The most fascinating thing about this engine is that the 90 per cent of torque is available from 1700 rpm to 3500 rpm. On the other hand, the torque curve for the diesel engine is very straight and flat.
Recently introduced F150 pickup trucks are also manufactured in the same facility and you might know that the F150 truck is enjoying the high sales volume in the US markets. One of the reasons behind the great sales of F150 truck is the efficient diesel engine. It could definitely be a step in helping Ford to achieve success in the market.
